SDForum Quarterly Venture Breakfast
with Pillsbury Winthrop and PricewaterhouseCoopers
“The Year in Review”
Tuesday, February 1, 2011

Description:
2010 was a confusing year, full of good and bad news. VCs invested roughly $22B, up from $18B in 2009, but VC fundraising dropped from $16B to roughly $12B, so the VCs invested $10B more than they raised in 2010, an unsustainable model. Three of the top 4 sectors in 2010 - cleantech, biotech, and medical devices - all face major obstacles and spark much skepticism from many investors.  Roughly 50 VC backed companies went public in the US in 2010, a 400% increase from 2009 but still a modest year from a historical perspective.   Will 2011 be better, worse, or the same as 2010?  Only our experts know!  Come hear the answers!
