The Emerging Technology SIG is a monthly meeting focused on the future. Typically, we either zoom in on a specific new technology and its applications, or we step back and look at trends and opportunities across a market or industry. We don't mind if a technology has one foot in the lab; we do avoid those that are "established" in any sense of the word.
Recent talks have included indoor 3D mapping, improved internet protocols, emerging directions in programming languages, crowdsourced image processing, and cargo control in seaports. Since almost every technology contains some software, we range widely and fearlessly :)
Ours members come from all parts of Silicon Valley and the Bay Area and include entrepreneurs, technology experts, and investors.
Sponsors: The Emerging Technology SIG is sponsored by: Deloitte, HP, IBM and Nixon Peabody.

Ron Lichty, co-chair of the Emerging Tech SIG and founder of the Software Architecture and Modeling SIG, is Director of Publisher Services at HighWire Press. Ron, who recently consulted as an Interim VP Engineering to transform chaos to clarity, has been managing product development and technology change for 20 years at Apple, Fujitsu, Schwab, Berkeley Systems, Razorfish, Forensic Logic, Socialtext, and CheckPoint. While still a software developer, he wrote shrinkwrap applications in addition to compiler code generators and was awarded three patents for software embedded in microcontroller-based devices. From the context of a career that has spanned system software, multimedia, interface development, embedded devices, IT, professional services and data warehousing and analytics, Ron observes that the problems that plague software development have more in common than not. Ron is presently co-authoring the first of a two-book set on managing software development organizations. Ron has been a determined community builder at every point in his career.
